Dr Penelope Strauss Wins Raine Priming Grant

Congratulations to Dr Penelope Strauss who was awarded a Raine Priming Grant for her project utilising longitudinal data from the Raine Study, Enhancing suicide prevention for LGBTQA+ young people: Examining factors associated with mental health difficulties and suicidality across childhood, adolescence and early adulthood in LGBTQA+ young people.

Penelope is a Research Fellow in Youth Suicide Prevention at the Telethon Kids Institute. Her Priming Grant is worth $242,886. As she is going on leave in January 2022, she will delay the start of her project to 2023.

The Raine Priming Grant recipients for 2021 were announced at the Raine Annual Awards Ceremony, held over breakfast at UniClub on 24 November 2021.

Overall, the Raine Medical Research Foundation and its partners have awarded close to $2.9 million for research to commence in 2022. Major funding partners include the WA Department of Health – Future Health Research and Innovation Fund, the BrightSpark Foundation, and the University of Western Australia (Cockell bequest).
