The Raine Study 2024 Symposium

Welcome to the resources page for the 2024 Raine Study Symposium which was held on Friday 8 November 2024 at The University Club of Western Australia. This one day, free event commences at 9am and showcases an exciting and informative mix of achievements over the past 12 months. Highlights

His Excellency the Honourable Chris Dawson AC APM, as Co-Patron of the Raine Study, delivered a moving address about the immense value that volunteers, like the Raine Study participants, deliver to the entire community.

Keynote speaker, Professor Susan Morton, director of INSIGHT, UTS Research Institute for Innovative Solutions for Well-being and Health about the impact of cohort studies using the Growing up in New Zealand  longitudinal cohort study.

Representatives from Generation 2 (the ‘kids’ born into the Raine Study) and their partners (Generation 2b) shared their experiences as a Raine Study participant and why they continue to volunteer their time and body for health and wellbeing research.

Senior researchers,  Professor Roger Hart, Professor Trevor Mori, Professor Peter Eastwood, Associate Professor Joanne McVeigh and Dr Andy Haynes presented their findings using Raine Study data on topics including reproductive assessment on Generation 2 participants, aldosterone/blood pressure, sleep, physical activity, and cardiovascular health.

Student and early career researchers presented findings on pelvic pain in young females, cardiometabolic risk and legume intake, child social-emotional wellbeing and academic achievement, steatotic liver disease, milk and depression, and the impact of sleep on road and work safety.
