Generation 3 and Generation 2B

Join us as we embark on the next chapter of the Raine Study. We now welcome the offspring of Generation 2 and the newest additions to the Raine Study family – Generation 3.

What data are we collecting?

You’ll be asked to provide information about your child’s health, well-being and development. See ‘What tests are involved?’ below for full details.

Why are we collecting this data?

This data assists understanding of health-related links between your child’s grandparents and parents. This is what scientists call inter-generational’ research, and it’s highly prized amongst researchers.

Step 1.  Complete a recruitment questionnaire.

This questionnaire captures family structure and your child/children’s ages, if you have any.  Call us on 0478 278 937 or email Rainestudy@uwa.edu.au to obtain your recruitment questionnaire.  You’ll need to complete and return it prior to booking an appointment.

Step 2. Complete the online contact detail form prior to booking you face-to-face appointment.

Tests will vary depending on the age of your child. Many tests are similar to those undertaken by parents when they were young. This provides the perfect opportunity to collect similar data across multiple generations.

Parental involvement
We will ask you to complete a medical history and lifestyle questionnaire for your child prior to your child’s appointment.

Child’s involvement
Your child will be asked to undergo age-appropriate, non-invasive health assessments and provide a biological specimen (urine or saliva).

Most appointments will involve measuring your child’s height, weight, skinfolds, bone breadth, waist, hips, and arms. We will also measure blood pressure and heart rate.

Children aged 10+ will be offered a fasting blood test and asked to complete a motor competence and coordination test.

Children aged 11+ will be asked to complete a fitness and heart health assessment on an exercise bike.

The other biological parent of our Gen3’s is now eligible to join us as full Raine participants.  We’re calling this group ‘Gen2B’.  Gen2B’s involvement allows us to gather holistic, generational data.

What’s involved:

  • Complete a medical history and lifestyle questionnaire.
  • Attend a face-to face appointment.  We measure height, weight, waist, hips and arms.  We will also measure blood pressure, heart rate and collect a fasted blood sample and urine.
