The Raine Study welcomes the University of Newcastle as an Institutional Member

New South Wales’ University of Newcastle has signed on as an institutional associate member for the Raine Study, the second university to do so since the category was launched in 2019.

Professor Peter Eastwood, Director of the Raine Study said the new institutional membership category was designed to provide institutions with easier access to the rich collection of data help by the Raine Study.

“As an institutional member, the University of Newcastle will get priority approval and review for up to 12 consortia and 6 new projects each year,” he said.

Professor Eastwood said the Raine Study was an exceptionally rich resource for researchers.

“We now have 30 years of rich data across multiple generations.

“Participants’ standard measurements such as height, weight and blood pressure have been collected at regular follow-ups, together with various research interests – from physical development, allergies and mental wellbeing, to bone density, sleep, eye health, cardio-vascular risk factors and much more,” he said.

A joint venture between WA universities and state and national organisations, until now external access for University of Newcastle researchers to the expansive Raine Study data involved a complex application process, with each project costed and managed individually.
