Participants wanted for online focus group in April

Urgently calling all Raine Study participants!

You’re invited to take part in an online focus group exclusively for Raine Study participants. It doesn’t matter whether you’re one of the original Raine Study babies or one of their parents who was recruited to the Raine Study between 1989 and 1991 – regardless of your age or how you got involved with us, you’ve been taking part in the Raine Study for over 30 years and your opinion really matters to us.

The reason for the focus group is to seek your feedback on a new visual consent form which is being developed for use by the Raine Study.

We’ve managed to arrange three different dates for the focus group – you only need to attend one of them, which will be one hour of your time. The available days/times are:

  • Monday 11 April, 6:30pm-7:30pm Perth time (AWST),
  • Tuesday 12 April, 6:30pm-7:30pm Perth time (AWST), and
  • Wednesday 13 April, 6:30pm-7:30pm Perth time (AWST).

There will be a maximum of 15 other people taking part in each meeting, and all of them will be participants of the Raine Study like you.

Register your interest

Please RSVP and indicate which meeting you wish to take part in by sending email to the Raine Study’s Follow-Up Manager Diane Wood no later than Friday 8 April.

After your participation is confirmed, we will send you a copy of the new visual consent form that we will discuss in the focus group so that you have time to review it before the meeting, along with login information and details about how to join the meeting.

What will happen during the focus group?

During this one-hour online meeting, you will be invited to share your feedback about the new visual consent form we are developing. A visual consent form is a new type of consent form with an emphasis on pictures and images rather than words to convey important information.

You will be asked some targeted questions about how easy it was to understand and engage with the new format, and you might be asked to recall your previous experience of the old text-based consent forms. At the end of the meeting, you will also be asked to complete a survey which will take approximately 10 minutes.

The focus group is being facilitated by research assistants from the University of Western Australia’s School of Law, and your identity will remain anonymous to the researchers.

The session will be recorded to assist in analysis of the feedback we receive. Your opinions will be transcribed but kept anonymous, and the recording will be deleted at a later date, to preserve your anonymity.

Should you have any questions about taking part, please don’t hesitate to contact the Raine Study’s Follow-Up Manager Diane Wood – diane.wood@uwa.edu.au telephone 08 6488 6952 or 0447 863944.
